Winter preparations - Talvivalmisteluja

Syksy on jo pitkällä. Ulkona on par'aikaa menossa taloyhtiön siivoustalkoot. Vaihdoimme juuri Pirren kanssa vuoroa haravointihommissa. Täällä sisällä on hiljainen hetki kun molemmat tytöt nukkuvat ovat nukkumassa.

The autumn is now about turning to winter. At the moment all the neighbours are cleaning up the last autumn leaves together and preparing the houses to winter. We did just switch with Pirre on the sweeping duty. Over here inside its the quiet moment of the day as both girls are taking their afternoon naps.



I did not have time to post this until one day later. Today it has been a very nice fathers day. (Not weather-wise - the pic above is not from today! ;)

Enpä saanut tätä lyhyttä postaustakaan ulos eilen. Tänään on ollut oikein mukava isäinpäivä. (Tuo ylläoleva kuva ei ole todellakaan otettu tänään, sää oli melkeinpä päinvastainen. ;)

Here are two quick time lapse videos I took from a walk to the playground we commonly visit (via a grocery store yard) and back. Even though the youtube quality is not that great and the camera - attached to the shaky buggy handle - produced blurry images once in a while, you should be able to get a glimpse of the surroundings of our everyday life ;)

Tässä on kaksi pysäytyskuva-videota kävelyreissulta kaupan pihan kautta Kauklahden Palttina-Talon leikkikentälle ja takaisin. Vaikka youtube ei kovin selkeää videota pysty toistamaan - ja kamera tuotti kärryn hantaakiin sidottuna välillä suttuisia kuvia - ainakin vilahdus arkipäivän tallustelusta pitäisi välittyä.

Big Bath - Iso Kylpy

The other day we visited a small beach nearby at Hvitträsk. Kerttus comment on the big lake was "Big Bath". She was pretty excited walking at the shallow water. Relaxing moments for the whole family, more of this!

Tässä muutama päivä sitten kävimme tässä lähistöllä Hvitträskin rannalla. Kerttu tokaisi rantaveteen totutellessaan "Iso Kylpy!". Matalassa vedessä kahlailu oli selvästikin kivaa ja rannalla oleilu mukavaa koko perheelle - tätä lisää!

Isä tietää, Kerttu tekee!

New words and phrases appear to Kerttus vocabulary ever day. Now the dialog between us and her is not just repetition of the names of the activity or objects around her, it is beginning to be a real dialog. This wonderful phase brings along the first hints of the toddlers thoughts in spoken form. One anecdote from couple days back: I was at the sandbox with Kerttu just after the rain. I said to her that "Daddy knows now after the rain it is very good time to do sand cakes". Kerttu answered in midst of shoveling sand: "Daddy knows - Kerttu does!"

Uusia sanoja ja ilmaisuja ilmestyy Kertun sanavarastoon jatkuvasti. Nykyään keskustelu hänen kanssaan ei ole ympärillä olevan maailman kuvailemista/nimien toistamista vaan oikeaa keskustelua. Tämä todella hauska vaihe tuo meidän korviimme ensimäiset vihjeet taaperon ajatusmaailmasta puhutussa muodossa. Pari päivää sitten sateen jälkeen olin hiekkalaatikolla Kertun kanssa ja tokaisin "Isä tietää että nyt sateen jälkeen on tosi hyvä aika tehdä hiekkakakkuja". Tähän Kerttu vastaa lapioiden hiekkaa: "Isä tietää, Kerttu tekee!"

Kitchen status (practically ready!) - Keittiö käytännössä valmis

As we do have something else on our mind, doing the very last finishing touches to the kitchen is not on the top of the list. It will be finished very soon anyway. Here's a photo of the result, the things that are not finished are outside of the pic or just not visible ;)

As the previous posting was also telling, at this age children learn fast. And they are eager to anything. Kerttu is no exeption: New words, new concepts, drawing, playing at the sandbox, listening and dancing to music, spotting new animals - every day something new.

We're also witnessing first signs of the first "negative age" (is this the term?) - the word "no", or pehaps more the expressing the meaning of that word with all possible means start to show up here and there.

Niinkuin edellisestä postauksesta pystyi päättelemään tämänikäiset lapset oppivat nopeasti ja ovat yleensä innokkaita kaikkeen mahdolliseen. Kerttu ei ole poikkeus: Uusia sanoja, konsepteja, piirtämistä, leikkiä hiekkalaatikolla, musiikin kuuntelua ja siihen eläytymistä, uusien eläimien oivaltamista - joka päivä jotakin uutta.

Myös ensimmäiset merkit uhmaiästä ovat näkyvissä. Sana "ei" ei ole niinkään vielä esillä mutta kyllä kaikki muut mahdolliset keinot ilmaista sama juttu ;)

We all been happy that last week has been constant winter weather - we almost lost hope for that earlier. Now especially as Pirittas mother was here most of the week we were able to doo many fun things!

An airport experience - Lentokenttäkokemus

Friday night I was coming back home from Oslo and had just boarded a plane for quick one-hour flight - or so I thought I was doing. After waiting on Oslo airport tarmac for about six (!) hours, sitting on the plane, we were finally off to Helsinki. I was finally at home Saturday 4am. The reason: heavy snowstorm rained some 20cm wet snow - the conditions were so bad the airport was closed for traffic just before we got on our way.

If the flight would've been a bit later we would have been sent to hotel waiting for the next day. In the end I do not know which would have been better - at least I got home earlier but only with two-hours of sleep the whole night. Well, it is better recover at home than somewhere out there.

Perjantai-iltana olin palaamassa Oslosta ja juuri noussut koneeseen pikaista yhden tunnin lentoa varten - niinhän mie luulin. Pääsimme lähtemään noin kuuden (!) tunnin odotuksen jälkeen, koko sen ajan istuimme/notkuimme koneessa! Kotona olin vasta neljän maissa aamuyöllä. Syy: lumimyrsky satoi n. 20cm märkää lunta kentälle ja kenttä suljettiin lentoliikenteeltä juuri ennen kun pääsimme matkaan.

Jos koneen lähtö olisi ollut hetkenkin myöhemmin meidät olisi lähetetty hotelliin nukkumaan odottamaan seuraavaa päivää. Loppupeleissä en tiedä kumpi vaihtoehto olisi ollut parempi. Nyt pääsin aikaisemmin kotiin mutta vain kahden tunnin yöunella. Noh, kotona on kuitenkin parempi toipua kuin jossakin huitsin kukkasessa.

New year in full swing - Uusi vuosi jo hyvässä vauhdissa

New year has begun mostly without snow. The weather has been ok, though so it's been the the winter activities and the light that has been missing. The last couple of weeks are the darkest ones in the year, anyway.

Kerttu is learning new things in fast pace: Walking and the balance is now so good that she can concentrate on actually doing things and reaching places. New words appear to vocabulary and they are also used in the right context. We might be far far away from conversation but it is still a wonder for us parents. ;)

Uusi vuosi on alkanut pääasiassa ilman lunta. Sää on ollut kuitenkin ihan ookoo, joten lähinnä olemme jääneet kaipaamaan lumitoimintaa ja valoa. Viime viikot kun ovat ne vuoden pimeimmät.

Kerttu oppii uusia asioita nopealla tahdilla: Kävely ja tasapaino alkavat olla jo niin hyvät että toiminta voi keskittyä varsinaiseen tekemiseen ja uusiin paikkoihin kurottamiseen. Uusia sanoja ilmestyy sanavarastoon ja niitä myös käytetään oikeassa yhteydessä. Vielä ollaan todella kaukana keskustelusta mutta silti se on ihmeellistä vanhemmille ;)

Christmas at Lieksa

Christmas time at Lieksa (my hometown) was fun and time passed quickly. My brother was also there with his SO. The thing we did missed a lot was snow, and better winter weather altogether. The weather was exceptionally warm and wet for the season. On the picture above you can see my home buildings at the background, as well as the miserable snow situation. On the pic below there's a nice sunrise view from the front yard.

Joulun aika kotopuolessa Lieksassa oli mukava ja aika vilahti nopeasti. Veljeni oli myös paikalla kihlattunsa kanssa. Kaipasimme kyllä kovasti lunta ja yleensäkin parempaa talvisäätä. Ilma oli erikoisen lämmin ja märkä vuodenaikaan nähden. Kuvassa näkyy kotitaloni sekä surkea lumitilanne. Alla puolestaan näkyy auringonnousu ko talon etupihalta.

Kerttu täytti täyden yhden vuoden viikko sitten. Tässä puhalletaan kynttilää sammuksiin - ainakin koko perhe osallistuu!

Back home - Perhe takaisin kotona

Phew! It has been quite a busy week. Pritta and Kerttu were at Raahe and I was on a work trip at Seattle. Both adjacent weekends were almost fully booked too which leaved no mercy to jet lag.. Oh well now back in normal routine, hopefully. By the way Kerttu took her first steps last weekend! Now the training continues slowly but surely!

Huh, olipa viikko. Tytöt olivat Raahessa ja meikkis Seattlessa työmatkalla. Tämän lisäksi viikonloput molemmilla puolilla olivat toki melkein täyteen buukattuja - ei armoa jet lagille! Toivottavasti arkirutiinit pääsevät taas vauhtiin. Muuten, Kerttu otti viikko sitten ensimäiset askeleensa (ilman tukea)! Nyt kävelyn treenaus jatkuu hitaasti mutta varmasti!

Kerttu is now 11 months old and is getting more and more an active member of the family. She is as adorable as ever! This week has been a bit sleepless as she caught a cold. It hasn't been very bad but the running nose affects the quality of sleep. Thank God is weekend now!

Kerttu on nyt 11 kuukautta vanha ja on yhä aktiivisempi osa perhettämme. Kulunut viikko on ollut vaihteeksi hieman uneton koska Kerttu nappasi jostakin pienen flunssanpoikasen. Tukkoinen ja samalla juokseva nenä vaikuttaa kaikkien unen laatuun tasapuolisesti. Noh onneksi nyt on viikonloppu!
